I know I have talked about this before, but I just find it amazing the amount of knowledge these children have to have at the age of six and seven. I’m glad my little one can handle it right now. You noticed I said, right now. When he is in 7th grade they might want him to learn trigonometry. Now we're in trouble!! This moma don’t know trig. If this mama don’t know trig, this mama can’t help.
Monday's homework: Every week the teacher adds five words to the list until they have a total of twenty spelling words. Once they have a total of twenty words they will continue to add five words each week, but the first five will drop off, always leaving them with a total of twenty words. Every week he has to write all the spelling and high frequency words three times. He must also practice the six short a sound words.
Tuesday's homework: He must complete front and back of one of this math sheet.
Every morning when the children arrive to school they must get their morning work sheets and complete them. My guy is not finishing his morning work so the teacher is sending it home to be completed. We have open house on Tuesday. I can’t wait to see what the teacher has to say!!!!! 
Wednesday's homework: He must complete a writing worksheet. This is a process for us. He will say his sentence and write it down. If he thinks there is a word he is not spelling correctly, he will ask for my help. I will help him sound it out and spell it correctly. This paper is prior to us going back over it fully.
Thursday's homework is to go over all the spelling, high frequency and phonics words. Every Friday there is a math and spelling test.
Ian has been getting 10 words a week since the start of school. My husband made a comment about how nice it was that is was only 10 not 15 like last year. So Ian came home Tuesday with 20 words. I knew it was to good to be true. He has to learn these words by Friday for his test. It seems like kids learn stuff so much sooner then I did in school. Like reading in K-5 and cursive writing in 1st grade. I don't know what this year will hold. I know what you mean about the trig thing. I don't know anything about that thankfully I have a husband that is great in math and he will have to help Ian when it gets past dividing. I love how your sons school seems to have the parents so involved with everything that is just great.

ReplyDeleteYou know how I can get on the topic of schoolwork, so I will keep it brief, but TCK really has a fair amount of work to do.---I think it is good though. G hasn't gotten any homework yet, other than to bring something in here and there. We start homework tomorrow in his first grade class. We will have 7 words in spelling and about 20 words in vocabulary. The math is the same for him as TCK's.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we are kind of behind here. No homework yet but he seems to be enjoying 1st grade. Good luck with helping him and I will pray for both of us that there is no trig in 7th grade. I do not have one brain cell that could help my child :).
