Spring Has Sprung into Action!!!

Yesterday on the way home from picking the Cisco Kid up from School, we decided to take some pictures of the beautiful scenery that’s around our house. This time of year is so colorful.

We pulled off the side of the road and took a picture of this old rusted broken fence with these pretty wild flowers growing around it. There is nothing great about this fence but when you find one that has these really pretty wildflowers growing around it, it makes that old, rested, broken fence have a whole new friendly look.

This field captured my attention. When looking at the vast land overgrown with red wild flowers and two large trees in the center of the field, it reminded me of the song, What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.
I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.   

The Cisco Kid had a big part in the next pictures.  He was determined to get a picture of this cow.   We must have circled around three times to get the right angle for this picture.   

The Cisco Kid loves horses.  These stables are just up the street from where we live and this was a great day, all the horses were out.  These horses are post card perfect. 

We have a large patch of wild purple flowers that have grown in our yard. I am resisting mowing them because they are so pretty.

Cub Scout Geology award

We are still working on our geology project. We completed what was required for the belt loop now we are almost done completing the requirements for the pin. In order to get any pins we have to complete the belt loop requirement first. Now we have to complete five of the pin requirements. Next week we will complete the last requirement.

This is what we have done so far. We have learned all about Volcanoes, what kinds of rocks were formed from the lava and ash. The boys watched a 30 minute movie about the eruption of volcano, The different types of Volcanoes and what effect the volcanoes have on the landscape. The movie also described what types of gems are created from the different composition of chemicals in the volcanoes. Some volcanoes produce rubies, emeralds and even gold. We simulated the eruption of a volcano in one of our earlier den meeting. This week we made a plaster cast of a fossil. I used clay for the imprint of the fossil foot, a plastic skeleton foot and plaster casting. The boys rolled up the clay in a ball then imprinted the fossil foot into the clay. When they removed the foot, it left an imprint. We mixed the plaster casting material with some water to the consistency of thick pudding. They filled their imprint with the plaster and we let it dry for fifteen minutes. They peeled away the clay and it revealed the cast of a fossil foot.

The Cisco Kid has so much fun at his Grandparents house.

Going to Grandma and Grandpas house is always lots of fun. They took us to the imaginarium. The Cisco Kid could not get enough of all the things they had there to get the imagination going.

There was a sign by this bird that said. Sing to me and I will dance. Here Grandma and The Cisco Kid are singing to the bird. As hard as they tried the bird was not in the mood to dance. 

This was really cool!!! It was a storm simulator complete with clouds, thunder, lightning and rain down the side walls.

 

This was a cloud simulator.  The Cisco Kid thought the cloud would feel different. He thought it would be a little more like a solid than smoke.  

A replica of a real Dinosaur

A dinosaur dig is always his favorite.  

There was a whole exhibit of many kinds of dinosaurs. They all moved.

This was a hurricane simulator with winds reached 45 miles per hour. It was very loud in there from the fan. 

Defying the laws of gravity.

Eight different sounds with different lengths of pvc pipe. 

Grandma was playing jingle bells and doing really good. 

This was a way to communicate through a pipe. One very long pipe that the Cisco Kid talked through one end and the Chief talked through the opposite end. They heard each other as if they were standing next to each other.

The Cisco Kid is squatting down because the Dinosaur was moving his head and he was afraid it was going to get to close to him. 

As we were leaving, the imaginarium there was a store with lots of cool thing. We just had to try Astronaut Ice Cream Sandwich. 

As soon as we got back to grandma’s house, we had to try it.

Of course, it was freeze-dried. Hard as a rock, but it tasted just like a real Ice cream sandwich. We all thought it would give you the real feel of ice cream if it were cold. It was totally amazing!!!!

The Cisco Kid said he could eat this and he did.

The imaginarium was a huge hit.
