Yesterday I posted about all the second grade words The Cisco Kid will have to learn during 2010 -2011 School year. Now these are the sight and vocabulary words he will have to know for 2010-2011. There are a good portion of these words he has had this year as spelling or sight words. I like the strategy they are using to teach them what type of words they are. He won’t be hit with an unfamiliar word and then try to remember if it is a homophone, consonant, double consonant or consonant cluster.
I have also found the testing format for the following.
VOCABULARY & COMPREHENSION
Theme 1’s spelling will be to know how to spell the word. I will say the word, use it in a sentence and repeat the word.
Theme 2’s spelling will be to spell the word correctly and use the word in a simple sentence. I will give the word and meaning. Only the spelling word will be graded.
Theme 3’s spelling will be to spell the word and to know the word meaning.
Theme 4’s spelling will be to spell the word and to use the word in a more complex sentence. Only spelling and usage will be graded.
Theme 5 & 6 spelling will be to spell the word and use the word in a complex sentence with capitalization and punctuation included in the grade.
Vocabulary and Comprehension is also tested on Fridays. Vocabulary will be tested according to matching word to meaning and fill in the blank. Comprehension is tested on story recall. There will be two extended answer questions where sentence structure is also graded.
Other lessons they will cover.
